From Phantom of the Opera, a continuation of the scenario where Raoul and Christine get married, and Poto becomes a sort of family friend.
Raoul, Christine, and Poto go out to eat at Whataburger*. And, they have a lovely conversation. Christine is so... clueless. See, I'm not a big Christine fan. In fact, I'm not a Christine fan at all. I don't really like Christine. Does it show? I think Raoul was hoping for some glimmer of intelligence, there. Maybe he wanted Christine to say she had some brains in her. Maybe he even wanted her to be so angry that she would leave the table and drive off in his car, leaving him and Poto stranded until she decided to come back. But Christine just seems to take it and shrug it off, accepting Raoul's implications. He looks to Poto for help. "Please help me? I can't believe I'm married to this bimbo." Poto just grins, realizing he narrowly missed being in Raoul's place, and reveling in Raoul's misfortune.
So can you tell I don't like Christine? Eh, she's not good enough for Poto.
OK, comments. I guess I felt like torturing myself, because I colored this thing. I wanted to kill that chicken strip box after a while. Christine manages to have a slightly different hair style every time she appears. I love that vacant expression in the sixth pane. I'm not sure I like Raoul's hair. I don't know about the bangs...
I'm sure you're wondering what that green thing on Poto's head is. Whataburger puts stickers on the wrappers of their burgers that say things like "no onions," "no pickles," and the like. One of the stickers they use is a green sticker that says "special." Christine, in all her vacuous glory, took the sticker from Poto's burger and stuck it on his head to make him feel special. Because... you know... he doesn't feel very special.
I put up the original pencil drawing in my scraps, because I just love those things. I think a drawing really loses something when you clean it up and make it all pretty. I almost prefer the sketchy quality. It gives it character.
It's best not to ask where these ideas come from.
*If you aren't familiar with Whataburger, I'm sorry. You're really missing out. It is the best fast food burger place ever. They don't have them everywhere, so chances are, a lot of you have never had the experience of eating at one. But Whataburger outshines the rest. My favorite burgers are from Chili's, but if you have to go fast food, you have to go Whataburger. (McDonald's has the best fries, though... they just can't be beat there.)
Ahaha! I never get tired of Christine-bashing. Of course, she's a stronger character in the novel than in the movie and stage versions, but even then I think she made some poor decisions. And then there's my whole soprano conspiracy theory...
I enjoyed your description almost as much as the comic! I love the "Special" sticker, heh. Well done.
I never liked Christine much until I saw the stage version. Sandra Joseph was Christine, and her acting made me finally like the character. Though I still do love making snide comments about Christine's lack of intelligence. And the fact that Christine is a soprano does explain some things, doesn't it? (Meant in no disrespect to sopranos! Just a bit of fun, eh?)
Yes, a good actress can make all the difference--and one like Emmy can, well...
All the soprano jokes are in fun, of course. Though I will agree that Christine being a soprano makes sense!
